The AKS Scholarship Award is a beacon of hope for promising young artists. Established in loving memory of Alexander Khemaal Shearer, this scholarship aspires to support talented students aiming to pursue an
education in Visual and Performing arts.
To provide them with the resources they need to secure and maintain
flourishing careers in the art world.
For Secondary Institutions: The students must be engaged in coursework that will lead them towards examination in Visual, Performing, or Fine Arts at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate level.
For Tertiary Institutions: The students must have chosen Visual, Performing, or Fine Arts as their major field of study.
The scholarship is the brainchild of Yanique DaCosta, a formally
educated fine artist, and owner of the Graphic Design studio YKMD.
Having been a recipient of scholarships herself after migrating to the
United States for higher studies, she recognizes the importance of
financial support in the arts.
She attributes her passion for art to her inspiring teachers at Holy
Childhood Preparatory School and St. Andrew High School for Girls.
